The first step is always mental, a decision you make
to work hard, to join with other women from the Charlotte
, N.C. , area and become a triathlete. Congratulations
on taking that first step. Working closely with
an experienced mentor, you'll find yourself getting
stronger, faster and more confident than you've ever
been in your life.
Over the past two years, more
than 200 women have joined Tri It For Life as first-time
triathletes. And every single one of those women who
started their first event crossed the finish line smiling
and happy.
Our Tri It For Life mentors and athletes
work for more than four months, preparing each other
to compete in Charlotte 's Ramblin' Rose women-only triathlon.
There's a saying in the medical profession: See one,
do one and teach one. This refers to how doctors learn
to perform various surgical techniques and the same thought
applies to our work with Tri It For Life. I'm so proud
of many of our athletes. They have learned so much about
triathlons, and have become so excited about the benefits
they received that they want to stay with our organization
and serve as mentors to new first timers. Our goal is
not only to help women become triathletes, but also show
them a wider community of companionship and love.
I participated in my first triathlon seven years ago
as a way to help me lose weight. And, yes, I did shed
a few pounds, but I gained so very much more: health,
wellness and a fire in my belly that has yet to go out.
I also have gained friends as we ran, biked and swam
our way to better health. And it's that sense of friendship
that led me to join with other women triathletes and
bring more of you into our sport.
What you've decided to do will be difficult, but you're
a woman. You're used to doing the difficult things and
doing them well. The rewards will be worth the effort.
You'll have a great time and you'll make many new friends.
Try it once and we think you'll Tri It For Life.
Sincerely,
Alyse Kelly-Jones
